Journey Through the Modes
Modes are a great way to get students to explore the different “flavors” of music. Many of my students already know major and minor scales, but it’s so fun telling them that there are even more scales! This video is a great way to quickly get students to play and experience the sounds of each mode - Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. A melody is presented in the Ionian (Major) mode, then repeated several times with the root note going up one half step.
